KARACHI: Talks between Commissioner Karachi and milk sellers at last succeeded as they agreed to increase the price of milk by Rs20 to Rs220 per litre.

Earlier in the day, negotiations between Commissioner Karachi and milk sellers remained inconclusive as dairy farmers demanded Rs50 increase in the price of milk.

However, the commissioner agreed to raise the rate on Thursday and notified new milk price after a round of talks with the Dairy Farmers Association.

According to a notification issued here, the retail price of milk has been fixed at Rs 220 per litre after an increase of Rs 20 per litre. The wholesale and dairy farmer prices of milk have been fixed at Rs 205 and Rs 195 per litre respectively.

During the negotiations, the dairy farmers had demanded an increase of Rs50 in commodity's rate while the commissioner turned down their demand and showed willingness to raise the price by Rs10.

The dairy farmers sought raise in the rate as per their cost of production and claimed the increase of Rs10 would not meet their increasing expenses.
