The Ministry of Industries and Production has announced that Pakistan will soon begin exporting SUVs and other vehicles.
In the first phase, 50 locally manufactured Toyota Indus SUVs will be shipped overseas. The second phase will see the export of the Toyota Indus Hybrid Corolla Cross.
Additionally, 100 Pakistani mechanical engineers have been sent to Japan for training, where their skills have been highly regarded.
On June 4, the federal government considered raising regulatory duties on used imported vehicles in the upcoming budget. This potential increase will impact vehicles over 1800cc, and new duties may be applied to other vehicle categories.
The initiative to export locally manufactured vehicles is a significant milestone for Pakistan’s automotive industry, aiming to establish a presence in the global market. Exporting SUVs and hybrid cars demonstrates the country’s advancing car manufacturing capabilities.
At the same time, the training of engineers in Japan highlights a commitment to enhancing technical expertise and maintaining high production standards. The government's consideration of higher duties on imported vehicles also indicates an effort to encourage local manufacturing and reduce dependence on foreign cars.
