Despite its high-profile cast and blockbuster credentials, “The Electric State” fails to measure up as Netflix's newest high-priced sci-fi.

Released on March 14, the $320 million feature directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, quickly claimed Netflix's weekly No. 1 spot. It topped rankings in 47 territories, entered the Top 10 in 93 regions worldwide, and amassed 53.8 million hours of viewing, totaling 25.2 million views.

Despite its initial numbers, “The Electric State” falls short of Netflix's all-time highest-grossing films. In comparison, “Red Notice” amassed 148.7 million hours in its first week, while "Don't Look Up" reached 111.03 million. The Russo brothers' latest project currently sits at 15th place for first-week viewership, just ahead of “Rebel Moon”.

Critics have given “The Electric State” a harsh reception, with the film earning a low 15% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Most reviews describe it as visually impressive but lacking narrative depth and proper pacing. However, audience reception has been more forgiving, as the movie holds a 6.0 rating on IMDb and a 74% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, suggesting viewers enjoyed it more than critics did.

The Russo brothers assembled a familiar group of Marvel collaborators, including Chris Pratt, Anthony Mackie, and Stanley Tucci, alongside Millie Bobby Brown. However, despite this star-studded lineup, the movie has struggled to generate the momentum Netflix likely anticipated.

Inspired by Simon Stålenhag's art book, the film envisions a dystopian 1990s where animatronic machines rebel against humans. Brown portrays a teenager navigating this ruined world with the help of a robot friend, voiced by Mackie.

Although the film may not secure a spot on Netflix's Top 10 all-time list, Millie Bobby Brown remains a streaming favorite. She will begin filming “Enola Holmes 3” in April and has several other projects lined up.
