President Donald Trump claims “total” power to lift lockdown measures in the US.

Donald Trump addressed a press conference in which he argued with the reporters. He said, “The president of the United States calls the shots,”

However, the US Constitution says that states regulate public order and safety.

According to the international news agency, ten states in the US East and West coasts are planning to lift their lockdown measures.

Note that the US has the greatest number of coronavirus cases in the world. The number of confirmed cases in the country is 682,619 whereas 23, 608 people have died.

Donald Trump informed the daily White House coronavirus briefing on Monday that his government was working on the decision to reopen the US economy. Trump administration has pointed out that 1st May can be a date for relaxing the lockdown measures.

Several restrictions such as Americans to avoid going to the restaurants and traveling unnecessary are expected to expire on 30th April.

However, when the reporters asked the President had the right to lift restrictions on a state-by-state basis, he said, “When somebody is the president of the United States, the authority is total.

“It’s in total. The governors know that.”

He added: “That being said, we’re going to work with the states.”
