Chinese tech giant Tencent revealed that it dismissed over 120 employees last year for violating anti-fraud rules, which included instances of corruption and embezzlement.
Tencent, known as the world's leading video game maker and the owner of the widely-used super-app WeChat, took action against reported breaches of its code of conduct.
More than 70 violations were reported, resulting in the dismissal of over 120 individuals, with nearly 20 cases reported to the authorities.
The company's founder, Pony Ma, described the level of corruption within Tencent as "shocking" in 2022, prompting the commitment to address the issue.
Some of the terminated employees were from Tencent's PCG branch, responsible for content broadcasting, and others were from the medical services arm.
The company's move comes amid broader regulatory challenges for China's tech industry, including restrictions on online gaming for minors and increased scrutiny from authorities.
Tencent, with over 100,000 employees, is now exploring opportunities abroad, particularly in Europe, by acquiring stakes in major gaming studios.
