Former Pakistani cricketer and commentator, Ramiz Raja has criticised the banned cricketer Umar Akmal, after the decision to ban Akmal from all forms of cricket for three years.

The 29-year-old Akmal was banned from all forms of cricket for breaking Article 2.4.4 of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s Anti-Corruption code.

Raja said in a tweet, “So Umar Akmal officially makes it to the list of idiots! Banned for 3 years. What a waste of a talent! It’s high time that Pakistan moved towards passing a legislative law against match fixing. Behind bars is where such jack asses belong! Otherwise brave for more!!”

Kamran Akmal, the wicket keeper-batsman of the national cricket team, while reacting to the sentence of Umar Akmal, said that his brother has been given a very harsh sentence.

Talking to a private TV channel, Kamran Akmal said that he was shocked at the decision and would go to every platform for justice and would definitely exercise his right of appeal.

The wicket-keeper batsman further said that there have been instances of lesser punishments for such violations in the past but it is surprising for him that Omar Kamal has been punished so severely.

Earlier, The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)  suspends Umar Akmal with immediate effect under Article 4.7.1 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code.

According to Article, PCB  suspends Umar Akmal with immediate effect under Article 4.7.1 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code.

He cannot take part in any cricket-related activity pending the investigation being carried out by PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
