The Ministry of Railways has made arrangements to run 30 special trains from May 10.

According to sources, train operation will be partially resumed after easing of lockdown. The final decision will be taken on May 8 after getting approval from Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Sources said that the Ministry of Railways has prepared a summary of partial resumption of train operation from May 10.

The ministry issued a letter to Lahore Railway Headquarters regarding resumption of train operation. The inter-provincial train operation will be partially resumed from May 10.

In the first phase, 28 to 30 special trains will run on the main line. The railway headquarters will complete preparations before the resumption of train operations. Other matters including rental, anti-corona arrangements will be completed.

Tickets will be provided through online booking only. The railway administration will run the train on 50% reservation.

It is to be noted that, Railway Ministry has requested Rs2 billion a month from the budget to cover the expanses of Pakistan Railways until the year’s end.

Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed told the international media outlet “We will not be able to pay salaries of Pakistan Railways staff in the month of July as we have money till June only. We urgently need Rs5 billion to pay the salaries and other expenses in July 2020.”
