The Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) Pakistan has held Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) responsible for building collapse in Karachi’s Ranchore Lane on Monday.

The spokesperson of ABAD in a statement alleged that SBCA is patronizing illegal construction in Karachi, which results in massive loss.

ABAD had been raising voice against illegal construction in Karachi for long.

But, the illegal construction carried out in various areas of Karachi under the very nose of SBCA, the statement said.

He said that ABAD through separate letters sent to the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Sindh Mumtaz Ali Shah and Advisor to CM on Law Murtaza Wahab expressed fear of any mishap due to illegal construction in Karachi.

Yesterday, a six-floor building collapsed in Soomra Gali, Ranchore Lane, Karachi.

Building collapses in Ranchor Lane, No loss of life

A six storey building collapsed in Karachi’s Ranchor lane area.

But, there was no loss of life reported as the building had been evacuated in advance.

According to the details, residential edifice located in Somra Street of Ranchor line, collapsed due to dilapidated condition.

It had 19 flats and a couple of warehouses.

It was built more than 10 years ago.

Utility connections to the residential complex had already disconnected.

The building  evacuated in the wee hours of Monday after cracks had appeared in its structure.

The officials present at the site  of the view that substandard material used in the construction, which led to the building’s decrepit state and eventual collapse.

Area people said the building collapsed because of dilapidated condition.

CM Sindh takes notice

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and sought report from Karachi Commissioner and Sindh Building Control Authority.

Contingents of Sindh Rangers and police were present on the site to handle the situation.

On December 19, at least two laborers lost their lives when an under construction building collapsed in Chawala Market.

Rescue officials said the incident took place when the laborers were busy digging in the building’s basement.
