RAWALPINDIThe district administration has restricted Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) permission to hold a political rally at Liaquat Bagh on December 27 to mark the 11th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced to observe the event in Rawalpindi this year.

Earlier this month, Pakistan People’s Party leader Qamar Zaman Kaira claimed that the party had initiated a mass contact drive, and public pressure will send Prime Minister Imran Khan packing.

Addressing a press briefing on December 4 with regards to the party’s rally preparations to be held on Benazir Bhutto’s death anniversary on December 27, the PPP leader said that the party struggles to hold a public event at Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh, as the venue has witnessed the martyrdom of Liaquat Ali Khan and Benazir Bhutto.

According to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s spokesperson, the Liaquat Bagh administration denied written application to hold the jalsa on December 27.

Bilawal Bhutto’s spokesman said that the government is resorting to cheap tactics, and repressing any voice against it.

Khokar said that the rally will be held at Liaquat Bagh at any cost, adding that they will utilize every legal option to hold the jalsa.

Bilawal Bhutto earlier said the party will observe the death anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto at Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi on Dec 27.
