Trump shows willingness to visit Pakistan says FM Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi  said that the United States (US) President Donald Trump has showed willingness to visit Pakistan soon.

According to the details, the foreign minister Qureshi said this after a Pakistani-delegation led by the Prime Minister Imran Khan met the US President Donald Trump at the sidelines of the Davos conference.

FM Qureshi said “We had a very fruitful meeting with the US president and the prime minister raised key issues with the US president during the meeting.

Prime Minister Imran Khan called on US President Donald Trump at World Economic Forum 2020 in Davos.

After the meeting has concluded while interacting with media, US President Donald  Trump said that the US and Pakistan have “never been this close as we are now”.

Trump referred Prime Minister Imran Khan as his “friend” and said that “it is an honor to meet him.

Talking about  the India-Pakistan tensions, Trump said the US was “watching very closely” and said if Washington could help, it certainly will.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the most important topic that was discussed between them was the Afghanistan issue.

The prime minister said that the US and Pakistan were on the same page as far as talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government were concerned.

He said Pakistan’s issue with India was also an important one.”We hope the US will play its part in solving [tensions] because no other country can,” said Prime Minister Imran.

PM Imran arrived Davos, Switzerland on a three-day official look up to attend the World Economic Forum today (Tuesday).

The World Economic Forum (WEF) 2020 being held in Davos, Switzerland from January 21 to 23.

On the sidelines, PM Imran Khan will hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders.

All the arrangements, agenda and schedule of the Prime Minister’s meeting in Davos on the sidelines of the summit have finalized.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razaq Dawood, and Special Assistants to PM Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari and Dr. Moeed Yusuf and other officials will be accompanied by him.

Adviser on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and Ambassador at Large for Investments Ali Jehangir Siddiqui will also join the prime minister at Davos.

Sources said the premiere will meet foreign investors to apprise them of untapped investment opportunities in Pakistan.

They said a meeting of the federal cabinet scheduled to take place next week will likely postpone due to the prime minister’s visit.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will return upon completion of his visit on Jan 23.

Last month, the Press Information Department (PID) in a statement had said the PM’s three-day visit along with his delegation estimated to cost the national exchequer $68,000.

On the other hand, the visits of former PMs to Davos, including Nawaz Sharif, cost $762,000, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi $561,000 and Yousuf Raza Gilani $459,000.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Imran Khan called on Former President of Azad Kashmir Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan and Former Prime Minister Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhary and discussed the situation in occupied Kashmir.

According to the details, they also discussed matters pertaining to the preparations being made to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day on 5th of next month.

Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan applauded PM Imran Khan’s efforts for effectively presenting the Kashmir dispute at the international level.

Political and development matters of Azad Kashmir also came under discussion during the meeting.
