ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood briefed senate on US-Taliban peace deal.

According to details, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, speaking at the Senate meeting, said that the solution to Afghanistan’s problem is not war.

The foreign minister said the swap of prisoners was part of the deal signed by the Taliban and the United States. He added President Ghani should seek explanation on prisoners release from Washington.

According to his information, Qureshi said the US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad kept the Afghan leadership informed about the dialogue with the Taliban.

The sources said, Qureshi said Pakistan had played its part and would continue to assist Afghanistan and other players for peace. He added Pakistan’s positive role had been acknowledged by everyone.

US, Afghan Taliban sign Peace deal in Doha

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan has welcomed the signing of Doha peace agreement between the United States and Taliban, terming it a step towards securing peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan by ending decades long wars and miseries of Afghan people.

On his twitter account, the prime minister said here on Saturday, “We welcome the Doha Accord signed between US & the Taliban. This is the start of a peace & reconciliation process to end decades of war & suffering of the Afghan people. I have always maintained that a pol (political) solution, no matter how complex, is the only meaningful path to peace.”
