Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a five-year transport programme to introduce a state-of-the-art Automated Rapid Transport (ART) system across the province.

Chairing a special video-link meeting on transport, CM Maryam was briefed on the ART system, a globally successful mass transit model implemented in Malaysia, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar. She highlighted its efficiency in requiring less road space compared to conventional buses and directed an immediate trial run for the project.

The ART system will feature three-coach buses with a capacity of over 300 passengers, equipped with solar-powered charging, fast-charging stations, Wi-Fi, and surveillance cameras.

In the first phase, these buses will be launched in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, eventually expanding to 30 cities across Punjab in three phases.

CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the need for a modern and efficient transport system to enhance the quality of life for citizens.
