Residents of Karachi and other cities in Sindh have taken to the streets to protest extensive electricity load-shedding amid soaring temperatures.
Reports indicate that in some parts of Karachi, power outages last up to 12 hours, while suburban areas endure even longer periods of up to 15 hours without electricity.
This situation has exacerbated the challenges faced by citizens during the scorching heat.
Protesters have criticized K-Electric for routinely suspending electricity supply at night, with interruptions lasting for several hours after midnight. Demonstrations have been reported in areas like Liaqatabad 10 No, Hijrat Colony, Sultanabad, City Railway Colony, and Gulshan-e-Hadid.
In response to the public outcry, Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah and Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani have intervened.
Loadshedding Schedule Karachi, other Sindh Cities
They have instructed K-Electric, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco), and Sukkar Electric Power Company (Sepco) to ensure uninterrupted power supply from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. This directive aims to provide relief to residents who have been affected by nighttime power cuts.The ministers emphasized the importance of addressing power theft issues rather than burdening ordinary consumers. Additionally, the Sindh government has assured the power companies of settling outstanding dues promptly.
While these measures aim to alleviate nighttime disruptions, there is no clear information yet on the daytime load-shedding schedule. The government's actions reflect efforts to mitigate the hardships faced by residents due to irregular electricity supplies.
