The Lahore Education Authority has decided to register all private tuition and coaching centers across the city within three days after the tragic roof collapse at a tuition center in Kahna that killed 14 children.
The heartbreaking incident also injured five children and a female teacher, leading the education department and district administration to introduce stricter monitoring of tuition centers operating in residential areas.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the District Education Authority (DEA) Lahore, Tariq Mehmood, said there was previously no system to register or regulate tuition centers operating from private homes.
Following the Kahna tragedy, the Lahore Education Authority has ordered an emergency survey of all tuition centers, coaching academies, and educational buildings across the city.
According to the CEO, the survey will gather details about safety arrangements, student enrollment, and other key operational information at private academies and tuition centers. The survey will be completed within three days, after which a detailed report will be prepared.
Based on the findings, the education authority will develop a new policy and regulatory framework for registering and operating private tuition centers to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

The survey will also identify unsafe and unregistered tuition centers. Special inspection teams made up of zonal heads and assistant education officers (AEOs) have been formed to conduct the survey and submit their reports within the given timeframe.
The education authority said the aim of this step is to ensure student safety and establish a proper regulatory system for private academies and tuition centers across Lahore.
Tariq Mehmood said an effective and comprehensive regulatory system will be introduced based on the survey findings.
Meanwhile, the Lahore district administration has ordered the closure of all illegal tuition centers and announced fines for those using residential properties for commercial tuition activities without permission.
