Heavy rains triggered a landslide in a southern Philippine province, burying two buses and injuring at least 11 people, according to disaster officials on Wednesday. The landslide occurred on Tuesday night outside a gold mining site in the town of Maco, located in the province of Davao de Oro, where the buses were picking up employees, as stated by mining operator Apex Mining in a statement. The exact number of passengers on board the buses was not immediately clear.

The injured individuals, including one in critical condition, were transported to a hospital, as reported by Maco town’s disaster agency in a Facebook post on Wednesday. Additionally, the disaster agency issued evacuation orders in five villages in Maco, situated on the island of Mindanao.

Data from the National Disaster Agency indicate that a northeast monsoon and a trough of low pressure brought rains to the southern Mindanao region from Jan. 28 to Feb. 2, resulting in deadly floods and landslides.
