Qateel Shifai remembered

The Eighteenth death anniversary of famous Urdu poet and film lyricist Qateel Shifai is being observed today.

Eminent Urdu poet he was born in Haripur Hazara, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on December 24, 1919, his real name was Aurangzeb Khan, he adopted Qateel Shifai as his pen name in 1938.

Right after formation of Pakistan, Qateel Shifai moved to Lahore, in 1948, he started his journey from Pakistan’s first movie ‘Teri Yad’ after that he penned for more than 201 movies and gave lyrics to approximately Over 900 songs.

His poetry has been translated into numerous languages including Hindi, Gujarati, English, Russian and Chinese

Qateel Shifai was one of the highly successful film lyricists of Pakistan and won numerous awards over the years for his film song lyrics. He also conferred with The President’s Award for Pride of Performance by the Government of Pakistan.

Qateel Shifai died on 11 July 2001 in Lahore and buried in the cemetery of Allama Iqbal town.
