Four children in England emptied their parents account in a wanting bid to unlock Spain’s star footballer Lionel Messi on Fifa 19 loot box but still failed.
Loot boxes in different video games have been controversial in recent years.
Essentially, loot boxes are a form of in-game transaction that do not have their contents revealed before purchase.
As such, getting an item of choice is left up to chance, leading to some people spending quite a lot of money before they finally attain what they are after.
Following the backlash against this system, some companies have even made specific note of mentioning that no loot boxes will be present in their games.
After their father treated to them one player pack, the four children decided to splash the cash on his bank card without asking.
However, Thomas Carter from Hampshire and his wife only realized what had happened when their card was declined because the account was empty.
Thomas said that “You pay £40 for the game, which is a lot of money in itself, but then the only way to get a great team is essentially by gambling. They spent £550 and they still never got their favorite player, Lionel Messi.”
The disgruntled dad has suggested that Fifa’s unethical method of buying packs encourages users to gamble.
