LAHORE: Lahore Police on Wednesday seized 2,000 kgs of dead chicken that was being transported to the city from Khanpur.

A police official, who was part of the raiding team, told Bol News that they intercepted the truck at the Ravi bridge/toll plaza.

He added that just to save money people are involved in this heinous crime of playing with the lives of the masses by supplying sick and dead chicken meat to different vendors and restaurants of Lahore.

“We are glad that due to our timely interception and action we managed to save thousands of Lahoris from eating this unhealthy and unhygienic chicken meat,” said the cop.

A senior police official from the investigation wing added that further investigation of the case will be done to determine the people behind the business and their clients.

“We will make further arrests in this case and bust this racket after thoroughly investigating this case and interrogating the arrested individuals,” a police official said.

One of the officials of the city district government who wished not to be named told Bol News that these businesses are thriving in Lahore and Punjab and they are playing with the lives of the masses.

“They cannot continue with this business without the involvement of government officials belonging to food authority and other concerned departments which needs to be thoroughly investigated and stern action should be taken against all of those who are involved,” the official concluded.

The failed attempt of supplying dead chicken meat to Lahore also raises the question of which restaurants or roadside vendors have been using this dead chicken.

Salman Hassan, one of the foodies in Lahore, alleged that the shawarma vendors of the city may have been using this meat as their prices were very economical.

On the other hand, an official of the Punjab Food Authority said that usually the dead chicken is purchased by small roadside dhabas and hotels which offer chicken dishes to consumers at nominal prices.

“But the purchase of dead meat by top restaurants and hotels cannot be ruled out too,” he concluded.
