A private football venture, featuring former England and Liverpool star Michael Owen, has joined Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive to groom and mobilize Pakistan’s football talent.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is inaugurating the largest sports initiative in the history of the country in Islamabad today and Owen is excited to be a part of it.

“I am proud to partner with [PM Imran Khan’s] Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive on behalf of the Global Soccer Ventures (GSV) to mobilize the youth of Pakistan for football,” said the Liverpool star on Twitter.

“Salam Pakistan and all you jawaans on behald od the GSV. I am delighted to share the same stage with one of the world’s great cricketers who today stands tall and proud as a visionary leader of Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan,” said Owen.

“I want to focus on the youth of Pakistan by helping to develop a local to global plan for football. I will try [to] connect with as many of you in Pakistan through the Kamyab Jawan programme…” he added.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister Usman Dar on Youth Affairs also shared the news with Pakistanis on Sunday.

“Happy to have Michael Owen join hands to promote Pakistan football through a GSV and Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive initiative giving the next generation a wonderful chance to shine at the international stage,” said the minister on Twitter.

Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive

The Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive is being organized in collaboration with Kamyab Jawan Program and Higher Education Commission.

The drive is part of four projects worth Rs4 billion started in the country to keep the youth engaged in extracurricular and sports activities, said Radio Pakistan.

The event, in its first phase, consists of 12 games including hockey, cricket, football, handball, wrestling, weightlifting, squash, volleyball, ski, judo, boxing and Athletics.

Under this drive, sports competitions will be held for young people aged 11 to 25, including women across the country.

These competitions will be held at 25 places in all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Some 10 million youth will be selected in these competitions for world-class professional training.
