Imran’s allegations against Zardari baseless, dangerous: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has slammed PTI Chairman Imran Khan for levying “baseless and dangerous” allegations against former president Asif Ali Zardari.

“Imran Niazi’s baseless and dangerous allegations against former President Asif Ali Zardari are not only irresponsible but also conform to a pattern of conspiracy theories meant to spread venom against his political opponents,” the prime minister in a statement on Twitter.

“Such nonsensical rhetoric is an attempt to remain politically relevant. The whole nation knows how he has used politics of hatred to divide the society for the sake of power.”

PTI chief Imran Khan alleged that Zardari had paid a terrorist outfit to assassinate him. He said the former president was among those who wanted to kill him.

The remarks has been vehemently denied by the PPP which has announced to pursue legal action against the former prime minster for making the allegations.

PPP Chairman and foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced taking legal action against the PTI chairman Imran Khan for his allegations against former President Asif Ali Zardari.

Bilawal said they will take the allegations seriously as being recently threatened by a terrorist organization. He slammed Imran Khan for levelling false allegations against his father and said PPP will challenge his allegations.

“After terrorist outfits called myself & my party out by name in direct threats, Imran has now made false accusations against my father former president AZ,” he said. “These statements increase threats to my father, my family and my part. We take them seriously given our history.”

Bilawal said the PPP is exploring a legal response to Imran latest “defamatory and dangerous accusations”. He said Imran and his associates have a well-documented history as sympathizers and facilitators of terrorists.

“When in power he released terrorists & arrested democrats, he handed over Pakhtunkhwa to terrorist organization, his party funds terrorist groups to this day,” he claimed, adding that this will be taken into account in case of any attack against him, his father or the party.

“Imran must realize every time his wife has a dream he cannot just come on tv & make accusations about people. Her dreams won’t stand up in court,” he added.

Bilawal said Imran’s latest accusation that his family has any association to a terrorist organization or would employ them to cause him harm not only defies logic but exposes us all to an increased threat.

He said PPP will challenge him and “cannot let populist fiction our dominate discourse, poison our politics and damage our democracy.  He said they will “not tolerate being victims of terrorists and put up with propaganda from their political front men.”
