By providing his skills in removing walnuts from yards and then selling them, a Wisconsin man transformed a local annoyance into a successful business.

Jesse Peterson, a Middleton homeowner, and proprietor of J’s Black Walnuts claimed he removes black walnuts from yards free of charge for people in Sauk City, Beaver Dam, Verona, Middleton, and Belleville.

Property owners typically view the walnuts as a nuisance, according to Peterson, since they may clog lawnmowers and create a mess if they decay on the ground.

He said the walnuts he harvests end up in his garage, where he spends the winter extracting the flesh to sell for $22 per pound, $11.50 for 8 ounces, and $6 for 4 ounces on his website.

He also sells the nuts at farmers’ markets in Promega and Fitchburg, according to Peterson.

Other local sellers, he claims, utilize his nuts as ingredients in cookies, bread, and other baked goods.

Peterson told the Wisconsin State Journal, “This is a tree to the yard to my garage to the table.”

He added, “I’m about as big as I can get right now with one person.”
