Tesla, the electric vehicle (EV) company led by Elon Musk, announced on Saturday that it has resolved its lawsuit against competitor Rivian. The case centered on allegations that Rivian recruited Tesla employees to unlawfully acquire trade secrets.
According to a Bloomberg report cited by TechCrunch, Tesla informed a California judge that the two parties reached a “conditional” settlement. The lawsuit is expected to be officially dismissed by December 24.
Tesla initially filed the lawsuit over a decade ago in 2010, accusing Rivian of a recurring practice of hiring Tesla employees under the condition that they share proprietary information. The case, which was set to go to trial in March 2025, became a contentious legal battle between the two EV manufacturers.
In response, Rivian denied the allegations and filed a counter-petition. The company argued that Tesla’s claims were baseless and intended to hinder Rivian’s growth while discouraging Tesla employees from joining the competitor.
This settlement brings an end to one of the most high-profile disputes in the EV industry. Both companies now appear to be moving past the legal battle to focus on their respective innovations and growth in the competitive electric vehicle market.
