Sindh govt plans EV taxi scheme for unemployed youth
The Sindh government is planning an initiative to provide electric vehicles (EVs) to unemployed youth through easy installment plans. This program aims to tackle unemployment while promoting environmental sustainability.
Under the scheme, young individuals will be able to own and operate eco-friendly EV taxis, offering them a steady income and contributing to a cleaner environment.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has directed the transport department to collaborate with banks and financial institutions to design flexible financial models, ensuring easy repayment plans and eventual ownership of the vehicles.
During a meeting with officials from a Karachi-based EV taxi assembly company, Memon emphasized the environmental and economic benefits of the initiative.
The minister stated, “The EV taxi scheme represents a dual-purpose solution—creating sustainable jobs for our youth and advancing our commitment to a greener future.”
The program is expected to launch soon, with the initial fleet of EV taxis providing affordable transport options and fostering environmentally friendly urban mobility. This initiative aligns with the provincial government’s goals to reduce emissions and support meaningful employment opportunities for youth.
