Mercedes-Benz stops production of A-Class sedan

Mercedes-Benz has officially decided to stop production of the A-Class sedan, with orders for the model already halted. According to reports from MB Passion, the company’s plant in Rastatt, Germany, is currently assembling the last batch of previously ordered A-Class sedans. Once completed, production will end in the coming months.

A-Class Hatchback to Stay

While the sedan is being discontinued, the A-Class hatchback will continue to be produced for now. The A-Class sedan, introduced in 2018, was one of Mercedes-Benz’s more affordable offerings.

Why is the A-Class sedan being discontinued?

The decision to phase out the sedan comes as part of Mercedes-Benz’s strategy to focus on more luxurious and high-margin models. The A-Class sedan was the brand’s cheapest four-door model, and the company found it difficult to generate significant profits from it.

Additionally, the A-Class sedan faced internal competition from the Mercedes-Benz CLA, which is a sportier, coupe-like alternative in the same segment. Given this overlap, Mercedes-Benz has chosen to prioritize the CLA, with a third-generation model set to launch in 2025. This upcoming CLA will include an electric variant and is expected to be one of the brand’s most advanced vehicles.
