Anvita Dutt speaks about the success of "Bulbbul"

Indian movie ‘Bulbbul’ produced by Anushka Sharma has been released on Netflix. The film has become highly-popular among viewers because of its thought-provoking concept, well-crafted script, and amazing execution.
Bulbbul’s writer-director Anvita Dutt explains how the addition of churail (witch) caused its success.

She explained, “Mere pair thode ulte hain (I’ve inverted feet),” She explains about inverted feet. “All the stories that I write, barring the commissioned ones, inadvertently introduce some supernatural or fantasy elements,”

Bulbbul, a child bride, is married off to an older landlord. The movie features the girl living a haveli. Some people are found dead and everyone relates the deaths with chudail. Bulbbul’s brother-in-law and childhood playmate investigates the matter.

Dutt said that she wrote the script around a decade ago. She decided to direct the movie. According to the local sources, she said, “Strangely, on the first day of the shoot, I almost heard an audible snap of a jigsaw piece falling into place. I felt as if I had come home. Now, I would pick direction over other things even though I will always say that I am a writer first,”

Anvita had earlier worked for several movies such as eyy Babyy (2007), Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Patiala House (2011), Student of the Year (2012), and Queen (2014).

Anvita Dutt spoke about the haveli (location). “What I really liked about this house was that it is like a box with high walls. The only exit from that house is a small door,”

Moreover, she talked about the role played by Rabindranath Tagore. “Tagore’s woman characters are written so sensitively — somewhere, that too inspired me to tell the story in a period when his stories were set,”
