Veteran Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan has passed away this morning. The legendary choreographer, also known as ‘Masterji’, died due to cardiac arrest at the age of 71.

Her nephew Manish Jagwani told the local news agency, “She passed away due to cardiac arrest at around 2:30 am at the hospital,”

She was admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital in Mumbai on June 20 as she felt difficulty in breathing. The mandatory coronavirus test was conducted at the hospital and it came negative.

Saroj Khan is a three-time National Award winner, and had choreographed several super hit songs for her incredible work in Devdas, Jab We Met and the 2007 Tamil film Shringaram. She has choreographed more than 2,000 songs in a span of over 4 decades. Some of her most famous songs including Ye Ishq Haaye featuring Kareena Kapoor from the 2007 film Jab We Met, Ek Do Teen featuring Madhuri Dixit from Tezaab, Dola Re Dola from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas, starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan.

Her last song was Madhuri Dixit’s ‘Tabaah Hogaye’ from the movie Kalank in 2019.

Choreographer Remo D’Souza told the local news source about the last ritual, “Her last rites are over. I just attended and got back,”

Bollywood celebrities expressed their sorrow on her demise.

Akshay Kumar tweeted, “Woke up to the sad news that legendary choreographer #SarojKhan ji is no more. She made dance look easy almost like anybody can dance, a huge loss for the industry. May her soul rest in peace,”
