Many performers who make their own way in Bollywood experience a lot of learning along the way. In a recent interview, Yami Gautam discussed it and stated that she is her own “Godfather” in the industry. Yami, who made her Bollywood debut in 2012 with Vicky Donor, is ready to celebrate her tenth year in the industry next year. Now, as her film Bhoot Police is scheduled to premiere on Disney+Hotstar today, the actress has spoken about how her support system has helped her stay sane over the years.

Yami told that the film industry is not always easy to comprehend. After working in the industry for a time, the Bhoot Police actress claims to have a “better intuition.” “I had made my debut on my own,” Yami said, “and no one tells you what steps to take there on.” She also discussed how Bala was a watershed moment in her career and how one script changed her life. When it comes to navigating the profession, Yami says that many people in Bollywood offer career advise, but it is up to the individual to decide whether or not to take it.

“I am my own godfather. You can’t always understand this place completely. People are always offering career advice. I had to push myself to not fall into this and stay focused.”

She stated, “I am my own godfather. Also, I had a support system in my family that kept me sane. You can’t always understand this place completely. People are always offering career advice. They’ll say, ‘Dress up in a certain way for meetings, socialise more, be papped everywhere’. I had to decide if I personally connected with [these ideas]. I had to push myself to not fall into this [trap] and stay focused on finding good roles. Uri: The Surgical Strike [2019] broke the mould for me.” She also said spoke about how media scrutiny also doesn’t make a journey in Bollywood easy as she claimed ‘untrue things’ are written about.

When Yami married URI director Aditya Dhar a few months ago, she astonished many of her business friends and colleagues. Everyone was taken aback when the two announced it in a social media post. The wedding images of Yami and Aditya went popular on social media, and many people praised the ceremony’s simplicity. On the job front, Yami is currently starring alongside Arjun Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and Jacqueline Fernandez in Bhoot Police. Pavan Kirpalani directs the film, which also stars Ramesh Taurani and Akshai Puri. On September 10, 2021, it will premiere on Disney+Hotstar.
