The Hindi remake of the 2017 Tamil hit Vikram Vedha will be announced later this year. In the Hindi version, which is also called Vikram Vedha, the title roles are played by Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan instead of Vijay Sethupathi and R Madhavan. Pushkar and Gayatri, the husband-and-wife filmmaking team, are also back to direct the remake. The couple talked to a news channel about how the movie is coming together and what will be different about it.

Vikram Vedha is about the cat-and-mouse game between police officer Vikram and gangster Vedha. The story is inspired by the renowned Indian folktale Vikram-Betaal, from which the characters’ names are also derived.

Given the regional tone of the story and plot, many fans of the original were suspicious when the remake was revealed. The fact that Pushkar-Gayatri, who helmed the Tamil film, is returning for the Hindi remake alleviated some of these fears. However, many fans asked whether the version would be diluted in any manner.

Pushkar says, “We know how to make films in a certain way, and we will stick to that only. I hope people don’t think of it as ‘Bollywoodised’ or anything. There has been no pressure from any quarters to do it in a certain way, let’s put it that way.”

“There has been no pressure from the producers or distributors saying films here have to be made a certain way. Nobody has had that conversation with us.”

“They liked the film and they wanted us to make it the way we make it. We have not found any pressure from any side and we have done our best.”
