Ponniyin Selvan opened to a massive $5 million overseas; total box office receipts exceed 80 crores

After Kabali, which earned $6 million including previews, the foreign debut for a Kollywood film is the second best ever, even if in many places that was practically two days of business. A like-for-like comparison would put PS-daily I’s business across all markets at $3.90 million vs Kabali’s $4.40 million. Even there, PS-I is on level with or ahead in several markets while Kabali leads in just one, namely North America. Kabali turned out to be a very frontloaded affair because PS-I can make up to $12 million while its weekend only managed to reach $10 million.

With $2.20 million through Friday, North America is the film’s biggest market, giving it the second-best industry start behind Kabali. The movie had the biggest opening day in the business in Australia and the United Kingdom, earning A$400K and £250K respectively. According to where the actual land is, Malaysia went above MYR 2 million for the first day. This could also be the country with the biggest start.

Ponniyin Selvan’s international box office receipts are broken down by region as follows:

North America – $2,225,000
Middle East – $900,000
