Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Syed Shabbar Zaidi has said that every person who owns a car above 1000 cc and a house which measures 500 square yards or above is required to file return of income, irrespective of having any taxable income during the year.

He tweeted that “FBR reiterates that every person owning a car above 1000 cc and a house measuring 500 sq. yards or above is mandatorily required to file return of income irrespective of having any taxable income during the year.”

The chairman warned of penal actions against those who failed to file return, and urged the public to avail extension.

FBR extended the deadline for people to file their income tax returns for Tax Year 2019, according to a circular people can now file their tax returns by December 16. The deadline was to expire on November 30.

Furthermore, the FBR chief directed the FBR formations to ensure that all industrial and commercial consumers of electricity and gas distribution companies are registered under and file return of income, if required. “Such consumers, who have not yet filed return of income to avail extension in time,” he said.
