KARACHI: The Corporate Tax Office (CTO) Karachi of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) held the sixth computerised lucky draw of the Point of Sale (POS) scheme on Tuesday.

A total of Rs54 million prizes were announced for 1,017 winners with first prize of Rs1 million, followed by two prizes of Rs500,000, four prizes of Rs250,000 for the third place and a list of general prizes of Rs50,000 each for 1,000 individuals.

CTO Karachi Chief Commissioner Dr Aftab Imam in his welcome address thanked all the participants of the event.

He praised the FBR officials and others for holding the event successfully. “The integration of Tier-1 retailers with the FBR is a big step towards documentation of the economy which not only benefits retailers by giving incentives on sales tax and automation of tax filing but will also benefit the country as a whole.”

“Around 5,200 businesses have been integrated with POS and more than 2,800 POS machines have been installed all around the country,” he said.

Imam praised the role of Metro Pakistan in the promotion of the scheme as it also announced 10 separate prizes for its customers. He urged other retailers to follow suit and play their due role in the success of the scheme.

FBR Public Relation Member Sardar Ali Khwaja said that Pakistan is facing various challenges during the current times.

He urged the business community to realise their responsibilities towards the betterment of the country and pay their due taxes. “The FBR’s doors are open for all the traders to address any concern or issues regarding their tax filing.”

Khwaja said that the role of citizens is of much importance in the success of the POS scheme. “I urged the citizens to shop from retailers integrated with POS, which will benefit in documenting and developing the economy and will also give them a chance to participate in the POS lucky draw and win prizes.”

Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Acting President Sabbir Hassan Mansha, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC) President Muhammad Idrees, Chain stores Association Senior Vice Chairman Asfandyar Farrukh, FBR Director General for Retail Muhammad Nasir Janjua and other officials of FBR were also present on the occasion.
