Bill Ford, chair of Ford Motor Co, stated on Monday that Jim Farley, the automaker’s CEO, is using a “full court press” to address operational issues that led to the fourth quarter results falling short of the company’s goals.

Ford told reporters at a ceremony to announce plans to build a battery facility in Michigan, “We probably had so much focus on the future that perhaps we took our eye off the ball a little bit on the present.”

“Jim’s got a full court press on it, and we’re already starting to see results,” Ford said. Farley is a “fantastic CEO,” he said. “This is the best leadership team in my memory.”

Results for Ford’s fourth quarter were below both company goals and investor expectations. Last week, according to Farley, the business missed out on $2 billion in earnings “that were within our control.”

At the presentation on Monday, Bill Ford and Farley avoided getting into specifics about any fresh cost-cutting or restructuring initiatives.

“We’ve got plenty of resources to get done what we need to get done,” Ford said. “And now we have to execute.”
