In response to a tragic incident that claimed the lives of six family members, the City Traffic Police (CTP) in Lahore has intensified efforts to tackle the issue of underage driving within the provincial capital. The recent incident occurred in Defense Phase 7, where an underage driver, caused a devastating accident, resulting in the loss of precious lives.

To address the growing concern of underage driving, the CTP has taken decisive action by establishing nearly 200 checkpoints at various locations across Lahore. These checkpoints aim to conduct thorough inspections, identify underage drivers, and ensure that stringent measures are implemented to curb this perilous trend.

The crackdown is not limited to penalizing underage drivers alone; the traffic police have also announced that they will take legal action against the parents of underage individuals found driving. This approach is aimed at holding parents accountable for their children’s actions and promoting a collective responsibility for road safety.

The tragic incident that triggered this crackdown involved an 8th-grade student, who admitted to driving at an alarming speed of over 100 kilometers per hour at the time of the accident. The victims, comprising 45-year-old Rukhsana, 4-year-old Anabia, 4-month-old Hazeefa, 27-year-old Muhammad Hussain, 30-year-old Sajjad, and 23-year-old Aisha, lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.

The establishment of checkpoints at strategic locations demonstrates the commitment of the CTP to enforce road safety regulations and protect the lives of citizens. These measures also serve as a deterrent to potential underage drivers, emphasizing the legal consequences they may face if caught behind the wheel.

It is crucial for schools, parents, and community leaders to collaborate in imparting responsible road behavior to young individuals.

As the CTP continues its crackdown on underage driving, it is hoped that these efforts will lead to a significant reduction in such incidents and create a safer environment for all road users. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of stringent measures to address the menace of underage driving and underscores the need for a collective effort to ensure the safety of our roads.
