The prices of bidirectional meters used in solar systems have recently seen a reduction, offering relief to consumers. Lesco, in particular, has slashed the price of bidirectional meters by 3000 rupees, bringing the new fixed price down to 33600 rupees.

This move is expected to benefit customers installing solar systems as demand for such setups rises, especially before the onset of summer.

With many consumers opting to switch to solar energy to cut down on electricity bills, the demand for solar panels has surged. However, this increased demand has led to a notable price hike for solar panels across the country.

According to reports from “Pro-Pakistani,” prices have surged from Rs 75,000 to Rs 300,000 for solar panels, significantly impacting the cost of solar systems.

For instance, a 7 kW system, which previously cost Rs 850,000, has now surpassed Rs 920,000.

Similarly, a 10 kW solar panel system has seen its price escalate from 11 lakh rupees to 12.5 lakh rupees, while a 12 kW system has surged from 14 lakh rupees to 16 lakh rupees, marking an increase of Rs. 3 lakhs to Rs. 18 lakhs.

This price surge particularly affects grid-connected solar panel systems, with additional expenses for hybrid setups that incorporate batteries for energy storage.

The escalating costs of solar panels are causing financial strain on consumers, especially those participating in the federal government’s net metering project.

The fluctuations in solar panel prices in Pakistan are influenced by various economic factors and occasional political instability within the country.

Factors such as brand reputation, performance ratings, capacity, and specific installation requirements also contribute to the heightened costs of solar energy setups.
