To drive legally in Punjab, citizens must hold a valid driving license or they risk facing legal action. To obtain a license, applicants must pass both theoretical and practical tests and pay a government-mandated fee.
Earlier this year, the Punjab government revised the fees for all types of driving licenses across the province, including cities like Gujrat and Gujranwala. This revision comes after a gap of 20 years and has resulted in significant fee increases.
As of September 2024, the fee for a learner’s driving license has been set at Rs500, a sharp rise from the previous fee of Rs60. Meanwhile, the government now charges Rs500 per year for a motorcycle driving license, replacing the earlier fee of Rs550 for a five-year validity.
The fee for car and jeep driving licenses has also increased substantially. Previously, a five-year license cost Rs950. Now, citizens must pay Rs1,800 annually to maintain their licenses.
These changes highlight the government’s efforts to update the fee structure in line with current economic conditions. Citizens are urged to ensure they are aware of the new fees and regulations to avoid any legal issues while driving.
