Punjab Introduces Major Update for Students in E-Bikes Scheme
LAHORE: The Punjab government has increased the allocation of e-bikes under the Chief Minister Youth Initiative, raising the number from 20,000 to 27,200, according to reports.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Transport Department confirmed the expansion and highlighted new measures. Under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directives, orphaned students are being provided e-bikes free of charge. Additionally, all female students who applied for electric bikes will receive them, ensuring inclusivity in the program.
The Bank of Punjab has approved loans for 20,000 students to facilitate bike purchases. So far, 7,500 bikes have been distributed, with daily deliveries ongoing.
The transport department reported that over 5,000 petrol-powered bikes and 2,000 electric bikes have already been delivered to students, with plans to distribute an additional 6,500 electric bikes in the coming days.
The project, launched by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on April 12, allows students to acquire motorcycles and e-bikes through easy monthly installment plans. Male students can opt for a plan with payments of Rs 11,676 per month, while female students benefit from a reduced rate of Rs 7,325 per month.
This initiative underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to empowering youth and promoting sustainable transportation solutions across the province.
