LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) sought a reply from the federal government, government of Punjab, and IG Punjab in a plea filed against the possible tear gas shelling on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led march on November 26.
A hearing was conducted by Justice Shahid Kareem on the plea filed to obstruct the possible tear gas shelling on November 26.
The petitioner’s lawyer maintained before the court that as per media reports, the federal government has geared up to obstruct the march and for this 50,000 shells have been provided to the security officials.
He underscored that the use of tear gas shells will pose serious risks to human lives and the environment. Citing the sources he also said that the police have been allowed by the federal government to use the gas on the participants of the march.
The petition pleaded with the court to obstruct the use of tear gas on the participants under Geneva Convention.
The court after hearing the arguments of the petitioner’s counsel instructed the federal government, the Punjab government and the IG Punjab to submit a reply in this regard.
Pertinently, PTI is all set to resume the march on November 26 that will head toward the capital under the leadership of Imran Khan and the government has been gearing up with all means to combat.
In this regard, the Capital Police have decided to deal with the protestors of the long march in unconventional ways by using spray paints, rubber bullets, paper guns and paper balls.
567 tear gas guns and more than 50,000 shells have been provided to security personnel, while 500 rubber bullet guns, 37,300 cartridges, 17 paper guns, and 11,000 paper balls have also been handed over to the personnel.
