Lahore: Famous university Lahore University of Management Sciences, commonly abbreviated as LUMS, has chosen to change as Lums University as part of a recent overhaul and notified faculty, staff and students via email this morning.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Arshad Ahmad said in an email to the students and faculty that the step has been taken as the university has evolved from a management school to a “comprehensive university offering over 30 undergraduate and graduate degree programmes through its schools of business, humanities, and social sciences, science and engineering, law and education”.
The reasoning given for this was that while initially the university had indeed focused on Management Sciences, of late it had expanded to many other areas of study and therefore the acronym didn’t make sense anymore. So the university would now be known as LUMS University where the word LUMS was a word itself.
Assistant Professor of LUMS Mr Umair Javed confirms this change in the name of LUMS.
Woke up to an admin email that says LUMS is no longer an acronym. The university is now formally called LUMS University (i guess on account of it being way more than just a place for people to study management)
