Actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar on Thursday hit out at the Center over the security clamp-down in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.
Her husband has not been able to speak to his parents, who live in Kashmir, for the last 22 days, she said.
“The question is not only about abrogating Article 370. It was done in inhuman manner,” Ms. Matondkar, who contested the Lok Sabha election unsuccessfully on Congress ticket, told reporters.
“My father-in-law and mother-in-law stay there. Both are diabetic, have high blood pressure. Today is the 22nd day, neither me, nor my husband have been able to speak to them. We have no clue if they have medicines available at home,” she said.
On August 5, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the Rajya Sabha, announced the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, which gave special status to the state.
The state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Urmila Matondkar contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North, but lost the seat to BJP candidate Gopal Shetty with a margin of 4,65,247 votes.
Urmila was last seen on the big screen in 2018 film Blackmail.
She had a special appearance in the song ‘Bewafa Beauty’.
Urmila Matondkar tied the knot with Mohsin Akhtar Mir in a private ceremony in March 2016.
Urmila and Mohsin first met at a party in 2014 and dated for a few years before tying the knot.
Her husband Mohsin Akhtar Mir is a model-businessman based in Mumbai, who hails from Kashmir.
