The Cannes film festival 2020 has been postponed amid coronavirus outbreak.
The festival has publicly announced on Thursday, “Several options are considered to preserve its running”.
The Festival was due to begin on 12th May and would end until 23rd May.
However, the Cannes festival is likely to happen at the end of June. The festival’s management said, “As soon as the development of the French and international health situation will allow us to assess the real possibility, we will make our decision known.”
The measure has been taken due to increasing pressure from government limitations to fight against the spread of Covid-19. Under the government’s limitations, public gatherings of more than 100 people are banned.
Several big events have been canceled or postponed to avoid people in the congregation. Cannes Lions festival, which was due to happen in June, will now happen in October. MIPTV, the international television market, and TV festival CanneSeries were canceled two weeks ago.
Festival president Pierre Lescure had said last Wednesday that he was “reasonably optimistic” the event would go ahead, after saying coronavirus would peak “at the end of March and that we will breathe a little better in April”
In wake of the deadly coronavirus, celebrity couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli shared their video and urged people to stay safe.
Video of the celebrity couple goes with the caption:
Stay home. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
We know we all are going through a very difficult time. And the only way to stop this coronavirus is by acting together, the power couple says in the video.
