A statue of the famous Muslim-Turkish warrior Ertugrul Ghazi has been erected in a residential colony in Lahore, the capital of Punjab, in view of the popularity of the Turkish drama ‘Diriliş: Ertuğrul’, which has been airing on Pakistan Television (PTV) since the end of April.

According to the details, a 10 feet tall statue made of iron and fibre was installed in Marghzar Housing Scheme on Multan Road in Lahore at the request of the residents after the popularity of the drama aired on PTV.

The statue depicts Ertugrul Ghazi riding a horse and holding a sword in his hand.

Regarding the installation of the statue, Mohammad Shehzad Cheema, president of the Marghzar Housing Scheme, said that he came up with the idea when residents thought of paying tribute to Ertugrul.

He further said that the statue was erected on special order from Kamalia town of Toba Tek Singh province of Punjab while another similar statue would soon be installed in the housing scheme.

He refrained from quoting the price of the statue, saying that if he did, everyone would focus on the price.

Regarding the installation of the statue, Sohail Anwar Rana, secretary-general of the housing scheme, said that the place where the statue was installed has also been named Ertugrul Ghazi Chowk.

He said that another statue of Ertugrul Ghazi would be erected on a central square soon.

It is to be noted that Turkish drama is being translated into Urdu at the request of Prime Minister Imran Khan and is being run under the name ‘Ertugrul Ghazi’ and this drama has set new records of popularity in Pakistan.

The story of this play revolves around the conquests of the Muslims in the 13th century, before the establishment of the Ottoman Empire, but the last season of the play also tells the basic story of the Ottoman Empire.

A total of 5 seasons of Ertugrul Ghazi have been released and there are 179 episodes of this drama. The first season of the drama is being translated into Urdu in Pakistan.

The drama became very popular in Pakistan and in the first 20 days, it was viewed more than 300 million times on YouTube in the country.
