Pakistani model-cum-actress Sadaf Kanwal, who recently was criticized for marrying Shahroz Sabzwari at the end of May 2020 revealed that she will not be doing item songs in Pakistani movies.
The newlywed couple discussed openly in an interview with a local media organization on the heavy criticism they had received on getting married and how they tackled it. Both Shahroz and Sadaf individually are doing great in their respective work.
Sadaf, who had been in the fashion industry for over a decade stepped into acting after playing the role of Sharmeen Mukhtiyar in the 2017 movie Balu Mahi. After that, Kanwal did a special appearance in Pakistani movie Na Maloom Afraad 2‘s item song Kaif o Suroor.
Item songs have been a part of the Bollywood film industry ever since the early 1950s. These songs are usually not related to the movie plot. They are often only fillers and used for entertainment purposes, particularly in the provocative context.
Pakistani cinema has recently begun to follow the footsteps of Bollywood in springing up item songs in its films. Nevertheless, debates on women’s objectification and sexualization have gathered strength in Pakistan, and a notable difference has been observed in the inclusion of these songs.
During the interview, Sadaf Kanwal revealed that she will not be further doing item songs. When she was asked, “will you do item songs after marriage, if offered any?” To which, Sadaf replied,
“No! Because I am married now and I have a family.”
She further added,
“I used to be single before and now I have a family so I will have to be more watchful for my decisions.”
The newlywed couple will be seen working together in an upcoming drama serial soon.
