A US court has rejected a petition filed by award-winning filmmaker Roman Polanski, seeking reinstatement of his suspended Oscar membership.

Roman Polanski filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Los Angeles, California, in April 2019 against the Oscar Academy for terminating his membership due to ‘rape’ allegations.

The Oscar-winning academy terminated Roman Polanski’s membership in May 2018.

The academy terminated the 87-year-old film director’s membership in 1977 for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

Roman Polanski was sentenced to 42 days in prison in the same case 40 years ago, in 1977, but the Oscar Academy still terminated his Oscar membership on old charges.

Roman Polanski’s membership was terminated at the time when the academy had suspended other filmmakers, including filmmaker Harvey Winston, over rape allegations.

Roman Polanski had expressed anger over the termination of his membership and had filed a lawsuit against the academy in a US court, but the court rejected his request.

Now the Supreme Court of Los Angeles rejected the application of Roman Polanski in favour of the Oscar Academy.

According to the report, the female judge of the hearing said in her decision that the Oscar Academy has full authority to terminate the membership of the filmmaker.

Roman Polanski was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977.

The court said that since the Oscar Academy had given the filmmaker time to present evidence and argument in its defence, it had been issued several notices and the filmmaker had submitted other evidence, including a long video, through his lawyer. ۔

The court ruled that Roman Polanski was provided with a transparent procedure for his cleansing, after which the academy revoked his membership and the academy had full authority to take such action.

Roman Polanski won the Oscar for Best Picture for his 2003 film The Pianist and has won numerous other awards.

Roman Polanski is one of Hollywood’s most famous filmmakers. He spent the early years of his career in the United States and later moved to France.
