Australian singer Helen Reddy has passed away at the age of 78 on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Helen Reddy was famous for her feminist anthem ‘I Am Woman’.

Her family confirmed the news in a statement on Facebook. Her children Traci Donat and Jordan Sommers called her a “wonderful mother, grandmother, and a truly formidable woman”.

“Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.”

Helen Reddy was born in Melbourne in 1941. She grew up in a showbiz family with actor parents.

She won a talent contest in Australia. After that, she sang a number of super hit songs including ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’, ‘Crazy Love’, ‘Delta Dawn’, and ‘Angie Baby’.

Her feminist anthem ‘I am Woman’ in 1972 gained huge fame.  In addition to this, she was honored with Grammy Award in 1973 for best female vocalist.

She was diagnosed with Dementia in 2015. She spent the last years of her life in a celebrity care home in Los Angeles.
