I follow in the footsteps of Begum Neeloji, Mehwish Hayat

Award-winning actress Mehwish Hayat conveyed her condolences on the demise of Neelo Begum, a well-known actress of the past and mother of Shaan Shahid.

In a message posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter, Mehwish Hayat said, “I am very saddened to hear the news of Madam Neeloji’s death.”

Most saddened to hear of the passing of Madam Neelo ji. It is pioneers like her in whose footsteps we walk. May Allah grant her the highest place in Jannat and give her family Sabr to overcome this loss. My condolences @mshaanshahid

“She has impressed all the artists, including me, with her work and personality,” said Mehwish Hayat.

The actress said, “We still follow in the footsteps of Madam Neeloji.”

She prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and wrote, “May Allah grant her a high position in Paradise and grant her family patience.”

Mehwish Hayat added, “My heartfelt condolences go out to actor Shaan Shahid.”

80-year-old Neelo Begum had passed away in Lahore two days ago. Actress Nelo Begum was the wife of late film director, Riaz Shahid and mother of actor Shaan Shahid. Her real name was Abida Riaz.

She had been suffering from cancer since a long time. Actress Neelo was born in Bheera in 1940.

In 1956, she acted as a child star in the film Bhavani Junction. She showed the essence of acting in many memorable films, including Miss, Azra, Zarqa, Banjaran, Betty, Dachi, Jidar, Nagan and Sher Di Bachi.

Nelo Begum’s funeral prayers were offered in Lahore yesterday. A large number of film and social personalities attended the funeral prayers and prayed for her forgiveness.
