Prince Harry said that history was “repeating itself” before he decided to leave the Royal Family.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle talked to the host Oprah Winfrey in an interview. The Duke of Sussex said that he was “relieved” to have his wife Meghan by his side.
Prince Harry told Winfrey: “My biggest concern was history repeating itself.”
“For me, I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you with my wife by my side,” he added.
The complete interview will air on 7 March. But it is not yet clear when the programme Oprah With Meghan And Harry: A CBS Primetime Special, will air in the UK. Some 30-second clips from the interview have been released. Meghan Markle was not seen speaking.
What did Prince Harry say about Lady Diana?
In the excerpts, he talked about Diana’s departure from the Royal Family three decades ago. He said “can’t begin to imagine” what she went through alone.
A throwback photo of Prince Harry with his late mother was shown during the interview. He further said, “Because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us but at least we had each other.”
According to the international news agency, Diana left her royal title at the time of her divorce from the Prince of Wales in August 1996. She died after a car crash in Paris the following year.
