Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the filmmaker of the popular Indian film ‘Rang De Basanti’, has revealed that Daniel Craig, who played the role of James Bond, had also auditioned for his film.

According to Indian media reports, this revelation was made by filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra in his autobiography, a book he co-authored with Reeta Ramamurthy Gupta.

The film stars Steven Mackintosh and Alice Payton, respectively, as James McConnell, a young police officer, and his granddaughter Conley.

However, in his book, Omprakash Mehra wrote that none other than the current James Bond alias Daniel Craig had auditioned for the role of James McConnell.

The filmmaker said that when Daniel Craig was contacted, he received a call for “James Bond”.

Omprakash Mehra also said that his first choice for the film was Daniel Craig, but could not feature in the film as he was being considered to become the new James Bond at the time.

It may be recalled that the film Rang De Basanti was released in the year 2006 in which Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor and others showed the essence of their true acting skills.

Daniel Wroughton Craig, on the other hand, became James Bond in 2006 with the release of Casino Royale.
