Netflix today announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment, the production company behind the cult classic Dil Chahta Hai as well as Rock On, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Lakshya, Toofaan, and the Don franchise. This creative collaboration complements Netflix’s exciting and diverse series slate in India.

Excel Entertainment, a pioneer in on-demand long-form storytelling, will produce a variety of stories for Netflix members in over 190 countries under its series banner Excel Media & Entertainment, beginning with two projects tentatively titled Dabba Cartel and Queen of the Hill.

The plot of Dabba Cartel revolves around five housewives who run a high-stakes secret cartel. Queen of the Hill chronicles the dynamic relationship between two ambitious women that will change the city forever, set against the backdrop of jazz-rich 1960s Mumbai.

“We are thrilled to be working with Excel Entertainment, one of India’s most innovative creative studios,” said Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India. They have consistently pushed the boundaries of entertainment and provided us with stories that have withstood the test of time. We are thrilled to have them on Netflix.”

Excel Entertainment producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar stated, “Our partnership with Netflix marks a new global chapter for Excel Entertainment after 20 eventful years in storytelling.” We are thrilled at the prospect of telling a wide range of extraordinary stories to people in India and around the world. We are very excited to start this new chapter with Netflix.
