L’Imperatrice, a French disco pop band, is getting its California moment two years after the pandemic halted their debut at the iconic Coachella stage.

“It’s the icing on top,” Flore Benguigui, a vocalist, told AFP in English. “I think it’s magic,” says the narrator.

The six-piece band, who formed in Paris in 2012, has finally made it to Coachella as part of a promotional tour for their second album, “Taku Tsubo.”

“The world is different now than it was, say, 20 years ago… People, I believe, are more receptive to diverse languages. People are perhaps a little more enthralled “said Charles de Boisseguin, a keyboardist.

“Perhaps French is also a little mysterious,” he continued.

Hagni Gwon (keyboards), David Gaugue (bass), Achille Trocellier (electric guitar), and Tom Daveau (drums) round out the band, which has numerous EPs under its name but had only produced one full-length album when the epidemic struck.

The closure allowed L’Imperatrice to work on their second big album in peace.

“We worked really effectively,” Benguigui stated, describing how they created their own studio to prepare for their comeback and eventual tour.
