Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, arrived in Canada on Thursday with husband Prince Charles to begin their royal tour of the country, and her choice of dress echoed that of her husband’s ex-wife, Princess Diana.

Camilla appeared to follow in the footsteps of her stepdaughter-in-law Kate Middleton by wearing the national colour of her host country. Perhaps more intriguing was Camilla’s choice of designer for her iconic red gown.

According to Newsweek, the gown was designed by Bruce Oldfield, a British designer who was close to the late Princess Diana and dressed her on numerous occasions.

Oldfield told the outlet that he used ‘fine wool-crepe’ to make Camilla’s dress, which also had panel detailing.

Oldfield is said to have met Diana in the 1980s through the charity Barnardo’s, which Diana was president of at the time.

The late princess was frequently seen in Oldfield’s designs at movie premieres and in official photographs, and she was once seen in a red dress similar to Camilla’s in Canada.
